Situated in the hamlet of Sandenet, 800 meters from the village of Issac with it’s church, post office and bar restaurant, this rustic gite is a haven of peace surrounded by large grounds with a lake, and stream, planted with trees and bushes and the beautiful Nenuphars (Water Lilies), hence the name, along the little stream that crosses the park.

The gite is a little gem of character and charm in a typically French way, tucked away down a short drive from the road, gated entrance, and completely detached.

The old stone walls and oak beams along with the chimney and interesting features like the niche give an ambiance of lazy summer days where time drifts by and the gardens invite you to picnic outside, to splash about in the private pool and to just soak up the atmosphere.

Simply furnished the accommodation has everything you need, from cooker, small fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher, plus all the usual pots and pans etc.

There is a downstairs toilet and another on the first floor, a large shower room with double wash hand basin and washing machine. Three bedrooms, two double and one with twin beds and bunk beds, the house can easily accommodate up to eight persons.

The large old house occupied by the owner, a lady artist, is completely separate from the gite. The house has a grand old entrance door, was once the principal residence of the ancient prunery (plum orchards). Stone steps lead to the entrance hall with ancient tiled floor and old antique furnishings, inside is a library open to guests to browse the books and videos.

The gite has it’s own private garden, fenced and secure with a gate leading to the main park which is open for guests to enjoy and contains the private pool (for use exclusively by the guests at the gite). The lake is further down the park accessed by crossing one of the two little bridges over the stream and the whole grounds finish at the banks of the River Crempse.

If you can tear yourselves away from this wonderful haven of restfulness, then you are ideally placed to set off and explore the Dordogne, travelling east to the magnificent Dordogne Valley, Beynac, La Roque Gageac, Sarlat and Domme or going north to Brantome, south to Bergerac and beyond. Not forgetting the Chateau de Montreal on your doorstep and the wonderfully picturesque villages close by.

For supermarkets, banks, shopping and tourist office, the nearby market town of Mussidan is a five minute drive. It would, I think, be impossible to create a gite in a situation comparable to this, it has evolved over time along with the natural gardens. If you are seeking authentic and simple French charm you will not find a match.
